History

For nearly a half-century, hundreds of families are still living their dream in a variety of quality constructed Swann Homes. Built on reputation and pride, Swann Homes is a second-generation residential construction firm. Founded in 1959 by James A. Swann, James A. (or Sonny to his friends) had been working two jobs to support his young family, one of which was framing houses. He envisioned being able to build the entire house from the ground up and it took several years before he could convince a bank to give him the chance to fulfill his dream. At last in 1959 he was given his first opportunity and he made the most of it by laying the foundation of superior quality that remains to this day. By the time James A. “Sonny” passed away in 1988, he had built countless homes, acres of subdivisions, constructed apartment complexes, brokered land real estate deals and participated in every phase of residential construction.

James A. and his wife Sadie had two children, Jim and Bill. Both boys were practically raised on construction sites. Jim started working with the company full time in 1977. Today Jim carries on the tradition, quality and respect started by his father. To date, Jim has constructed several hundred homes and developed numerous subdivisions. While Bill has occasionally participated in residential construction through the years, his responsibilities are centered on the management apartment complexes owned by the Swann family.

It’s Jim Swann’s dream the business will be passed to yet another generation of Swanns. Jim’s middle son Justin is currently pursuing a business degree in college in preparation for joining the family business. What started as a young man’s dream in the 1950’s has grown into the fulfillment, of not only his dreams but those of hundreds of families living in and building lasting memories in the quality of their Swann build Home.
